CHGPOPA (Change POP Mail Server Attributes) Command
Purpose
The Change POP Mail Server Attributes (CHGPOPA) command is used to change the
Post Office Protocol (POP) Version 3 Mail Server attributes. The changes take
effect the next time the POP3 server is started either by the Start TCP/IP
(STRTCP) command or by the Start TCP/IP Server (STRTCPSVR) command.
Restrictions:
You must have *IOSYSCFG special authority to use this command.
Optional Parameters
AUTOSTART Specifies whether to automatically start the POP mail
server when TCP/IP is started by the STRTCP command. When the POP mail server is
started by the STRTCPSVR command, the AUTOSTART parameter is ignored and the POP
mail server is started regardless of the value of this parameter. If STRTCPSVR
*POP is specified, and the POP server is already running, then an additional
server job is started.
*SAME: The AUTOSTART value does not change if it was previously
set. Otherwise, *NO is used.
*NO: Do not start the number of server jobs defined in the NBRSVR
parameter when the STRTCP command is called. If you do not intend to use the POP
mail server, set AUTOSTART to *NO.
*YES: Start the number of server jobs specified in the NBRSVR
parameter.
NBRSVR Specifies the number of POP mail server jobs to start when
POP is started by either the Start TCP/IP (STRTCP) command or the Start TCP/IP
Server (STRTCPSVR) command. These jobs allow new clients to connect to the
server without having to wait for the overhead associated with starting a new
job. The server tries to keep at least this number of jobs available for
connecting to new clients as the number of connected clients changes. This is a
performance enhancement for the POP mail server that reduces the system overhead
each time a client connects.
Note: If you are using MAPI-based clients with AS/400 Client Access
for Windows 95/NT and the SNA protocol, this parameter does not affect the
number of SNA servers. The number of SNA servers is determined by prestart job
configuration, and set on the Change Prestart Job Entry (CHGPJE) command.
*SAME: The number of server jobs does not change if it was
previously set.
*DFT: The number of server jobs is set to the default value of 3.
number-of-server-jobs: Specify the number of server jobs to start.
The valid range is 1 through 20.
INACTTIMO Specifies the number of seconds of inactivity between
the client and server before the server assumes the client has stopped
communicating and disconnects from the client. When this event occurs the server
does not delete any mail in the user's mail box to ensure that mail is not lost.
*SAME: The inactivity timeout value does not change if it was
previously set.
*DFT: The inactivity timeout value is set to the default value of
600 seconds (10 minutes).
inactivity-timeout-value: Specify an inactivity timeout value in
the range 10 to 65536 seconds.
MSGSPLIT Specifies the number of kilobytes that will be used for
partial message blocks when the mail message exceeds this count. This is used
only for remote mail delivery. This is a network parameter and is determined by
the capacities of the network gateways you are connected to. Changes to this
parameter take effect immediately; you do not need to restart the POP server.
*SAME: The value does not change if it was previously set.
*DFT: The message split size is set to the default value of 128
kilobytes.
message-split-size: Specify a message split size in the range 32
to 2048 (kilobytes).
MIMECCSID Specifies the MIME coded-character set identifier
(CCSID) conversion parameters. You must restart the mail server framework (using
the STRMSF command) for changes to this parameter to take effect.
Element 1: CCSID
CCSID value to be used for single-byte character set (SBCS) and some
mixed-byte character set (MBCS) ASCII translations when doing ASCII-to-EBCDIC
and EBCDIC-to-ASCII mapping.
*SAME: The CCSID value that was previously set does not change.
Otherwise, 00819 (ISO 8859-1 8-bit ASCII) is used.
CCSID-value: Specify an ASCII CCSID value from the following list.
This value is validated to ensure that you are specifying a valid MIME Standard
ASCII CCSID.
ASCII CCSID
00367
MIME Standard: US-ASCII Name: US English EBCDIC CCSID: 00500
00819
MIME Standard: ISO-8859-1 Name: Latin-1 EBCDIC CCSID: 00500
00912
MIME Standard: ISO-8859-2 Name: Latin-2 EBCDIC CCSID: 870
00915
MIME Standard: ISO-8859-5 Name: Cyrillic EBCDIC CCSID: 01025
01089
MIME Standard: ISO-8859-6 Name: Arabic EBCDIC CCSID: 00420
00813
MIME Standard: ISO-8859-7 Name: Greek EBCDIC CCSID: 00875
00916
MIME Standard: ISO-8859-8 Name: Hebrew EBCDIC CCSID: 00424
00920
MIME Standard: ISO-8859-9 Name: Latin-5 EBCDIC CCSID: 01026
05052
MIME Standard: ISO-2022-JP Name: Japan MBCS EBCDIC CCSID: 05026
Element 2: When_to_Use
Specifies whether or not to force conversion of mail to or from the ASCII
CCSID specified on the CCSID parameter. This configured parameter is a global
parameter; once you set it to *ALWAYS, it dictates the CCSID that all
EBCDIC-to-ASCII mail will use. This parameter should only be set to *ALWAYS if
there is a requirement to limit the character set. This should be communicated
to all clients requiring OfficeVision for OS/400 mail interchange, particularly
where language differences could cause a loss of certain language-specific
symbols.
*SAME: The When_to_Use attribute does not change if it was
previously set.
*BESTFIT: Use the specified CCSID only if the
AnyMail/400 Framework is unable to determine the CCSID from the data in the
mail.
*ALWAYS: Always use the specified CCSID, even if the AnyMail/400
Framework would have used a best-fit CCSID. For incoming mail, the specified
CCSID is used if the MIME character set is not supported by the AnyMail/400
Framework. For outgoing mail, EBCDIC-to-ASCII will always convert to the
specified CCSID.
ALWSTDCNN Specifies whether clients are allowed to connect to the
POP server using standard POP (TCP/IP) connection protocol. If you are also
using Client Access for OS/400 to connect to the POP server, use the HOSTSVRCNN
parameter.
*SAME: The value does not change if it was previously set.
*YES: Clients can connect using standard POP protocol.
*NO: Clients cannot connect using standard POP protocol.
HOSTSVRCNN Specifies the types of connection protocols to be
supported for Client Access for OS/400 clients connected to the POP server.
*SAME: The supported protocols do not change.
*ALL: All three connection protocols are supported.
*NONE: None of the connection protocols are supported for Client
Access for OS/400 clients.
Up to three of the
following connection protocol values
may be specified:
*IP: Support TCP/IP protocol for Client Access for OS/400 clients.
*IPX: Support IPX/SPX protocol for Client Access for OS/400
clients.
*SNA: Support SNA protocol for Client Access for OS/400 clients.
ADRBOOK Specifies whether the POP server is enabled to support
client requests for Address Book information. Address Book information is
extracted from the AS/400 System Distribution Directory and stored separately.
It is optionally refreshed from the AS/400 System Distribution Directory on a
timed interval.
*SAME: The value that was previously set does not change;
otherwise, *NO is used.
*NO: Do not enable Address Book support. No Address Book is
created from the AS/400 System Distribution Directory. Client requests to this
server for Address Book information will be rejected.
Element 1: Enable Address Book
Support
*YES: Enable Address Book support. An Address Book will be created
from the AS/400 System Distribution Directory, and will be refreshed on the time
interval specified by the Refresh interval element of this parameter. Client
requests to this server for Address Book information will be honored.
Element 2: Refresh interval
Specifies, in minutes, how often the Address Book used by the POP server will
be refreshed from the AS/400 System Distribution Directory. When the specified
time interval expires, the POP server will refresh its Address Book if there
have been any changes in the AS/400 System Distribution Directory since the last
refresh. The timer is then reset to the specified interval. This continues as
long as the POP server is running.
If you want the POP Address Book to be initialized only when the POP server
starts or is re-started, specify *NONE for this parameter.
60: The refresh interval will be 60 minutes.
*NONE: The Address Book will not be refreshed at regular
intervals. It will be initialized only when the POP server starts or is
re-started.
refresh-interval: The time interval, in minutes, between refreshes
of the POP server Address Book from the AS/400 System Distribution Directory.
Examples
Example 1: Start the POP server
automatically
CHGPOPA AUTOSTART(*YES)
This command indicates that the next time the STRTCP command is issued to
start up TCP/IP and to automatically start the TCP/IP applications, the POP
server will be automatically started.
Example 2: Changing the number of
initial server jobs
CHGPOPA NBRSVR(5)
This command indicates that the next time the POP mail server is started,
five POP server jobs will be started automatically.
