VICE PRESIDENT AL GORE
LAUDS THE LAUNCH OF FIRSTGOV.GOV
Vice President Al Gore today hailed the new Firstgov.gov Internet
web site as a giant step forward in bringing government closer to the
American people.
"This new site is a powerful tool for restoring trust in
government's more basic mission -- to help, serve, listen, and respond
to the American people," Vice President Al Gore said.
"It's also a major development on the road to creating a
comprehensive electronic government that citizens will be able to access
24 hours a day, seven days a week -- where and when they need it," Gore
continued. "I want to commend Eric Brewer for developing and donating
the power search engine that made this possible, as well as, GSA, our
National Partnership for Reinventing Government, and all those in
government and the private sector who helped us get the site up and
running."
President Clinton officially unveiled Firstgov.gov on September 22.
It is the first-ever U.S. Government web site that provides the public
with easy, one-stop access to all federal government online information
and services. This web site -- located at www.firstgov.gov -- provides
a single online information portal that will connect Americans with
information and resources from all 27 million federal agency web pages.
