    Commonly Used Win9x/NT Tools

  • Winipcfg ... This is on your Win9x box or "ipconfig" on an NT machine, I bet you didnt even know it. Run this program from Explorer or from the "Run" command under the Start-Menu. It will show you the current Network Properties for Network/Dialup Adapters.

    Windows9x Target = "winipcfg.exe"
    WinNT Target = "ipconfig.exe"

  • NetLab ...A multithreaded Windows 95/NT Winsock compliant application that has the following features: Finger service, WhoIs service, Ping, Traceroute, DayTime, PC's clock synchronization, Quote of the day, DNS lookup, Port scan and more.

  • ZoneAlarm A very basic firewall that is preconfigured. A very good introduction into firewall basics. This program has been reported to false alarm on several occations. However, although a but irritating at times, it is simple to install, and seems to work fine.
